    Im a 24 year old 5'3 140 pound female. naturally athletic build in ok shape but am DEF overweight. I have major issues with portion control but do love healthy foods, always have. Starchy carbs (I could eat whole gran bread by the loaf!) seem to be my issue...how will I lose weight consuming more cals than I burn eating unlimited sugary fruits and starches? I want to understand, this isn't a criticism. Is it that bcuz I can't eat butter, I wont want to eat bread as much? Help!
    You want to use more salads that are low GI in your diet. These do not have to be boring and can include spices, stevia and even meat. You can still eat bread but try replacing it with other foods and fruit as well. I have fruit some times for breakfast because I find bread and portage too heavy to train with. You could also have egg white omelets but you can also have the yolk as well. What type of training do you do.I eat healthy now. I do egg whites, lean proteins, veggies and fruits. Only complex carbs on occasion. But I just wanted to see if this vegan thing would REALLY allow me to throw out my portion control. I don't see how 4000 cals of fruit will help me shed pounds if I'm not burning nearly as much. I just don't understand the logic, but it makes sense in terms of simplifying our lives, diets and I know vegans are skinny...I'm struggling with the idea...Vegans are skinny because most of them are eating a controlled calorie diet and they are all quite aware of their health as well. You can eat meat and still loose weight. There is a lot of new age nonsense out there. I have no problem with some one not eating meat for moral reasons but if it is too lose weight then I would suggest more research is needed into to diet. Sugar is the number one problem when it comes to peoples weight not meat as it loads people metabolism.

    Yeah lets recommend meat and chicken periods as health foods, makes sense to me! Screw the animal products and go vegan if you want a healthier and more vibrant you. Every fruit and veg has the right proportions of fat carbs and proteins that the body needs for cellular function, no need for the dead animals, cow titty juice, and chicken periods. I mean, does eating that shit even makes sense to you? Or does it only make sense because that's what has been passed onto us by TV and the media?TV and media have nothing to do with it. I base my position on logic that is derived from scientific evidence. Vegan can be healthy as it is a controlled calorie diet and is actually very difficult to eat too many calories on. But that does not mean that Chick, fish and meat cannot be eaten if a person has a desire to do so. I have nothing against a person not eating meat on moral grounds but if it is for health then I would ask them to re/examine that idea.
    Yeah I have issues with portion control too, I binge out on fruit EVERY MEAL OF EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR; if it's not fruit its low fat cooked carbs like steamed pots, rice, sweet pots, etc. Don't fret about the bread, we live in a society where it's normal to eat small portions and have a large waistline ;) Dietary thermogenesis is the reason why excess carbs don't get stored as fat.     lol try telling that to any serious athlete out there, good way to get people unhealthy and starved.. VEGAN HIGH CARBS LOW FAT LOW PROTEIN is where it's at man. Eating upwards of 30 bananas a day while jamming in the steamed potatoes and rice (Over 4000 cals) has gotten me the energy I need to run faster, climb harder, and deal with life. Me along with so many others are proof that this is the ultimate way to go. I wear glasses for seeing clearly so can't wear sunglasses ( or have/find any that fit comfortably over my glasses) My glasses are Transition lenses so do go darker in sunlight but would still prefer sunglasses when I do get back on my bike. Can't get on with contact lenses at all due nature of my eyesight.
    Thanks for posting. Just what I needed to hear, makes total sense. Not been on my for about 7 years now... holed up in my shed ( Marin sausilito, hybrid) gonna get it out & sorted. Don't know about others but years ago when I tried to run, I found I'm crap at it. I don't feel right in my posture/stance. Just feels weird & clumsy. Never felt that way on a bike so two wheels definitely seems the way to go + if I get out of breath ( which I'm sure to) I can still coast along & won't have to stop.
    glad you're going to get back into it, make sure you get a proper bike fitted to you and a bike that is your size because if it isn't your size you're gonna get injuries. Yeah cycling glasses are a safe bet so little bits of grit and things don't hit your eyes or your glasses, most brands fit over the glasses alright.
    You just need to get used to running that is all. But cycling is the best to start of with as it is low impact (non impact) and can allow you to build a good foundation of fitness. Running works different muscle groups as does weight training and flexibility training and they are all just as important.
